+ | I was addicted to porn for 9 years. When I say porn will ruin your life, I speak from experience. If I were giving my former self advice, this is what I'd say: You're doing your best. My sister was in the hospital. My mom and younger sisters stayed with her. My dad, brother, and myself stayed home (2 hours away). There were some weekends I couldn't go visit because of homework or my job. I would be all alone. I was going through a lot. Depression, anxiety, stress. At one point I considered getting a diagnosis so I could take meds for it. All the while, I knew my porn use was a problem. I would be awake until 3 am watching porn. Then I'd wake up 6 hours later for classes. And go to work right after. I'd put off my homework and play video games or scroll social media. Then I'd go right back to porn. I was trapped in a vicious cycle. I was ashamed of what I was doing and who I was becoming. There were a few girls at church I would be interested in. But I didn't know how to talk to them or pursue them. The secrecy and isolation only fed my addiction. On the surface, you wouldn't have guessed I was an addict. I did well at my job. Had good grades. And knew lots of people at school. But as soon as I was home I faced pain and problems. Porn was my escape from it all. All of this went on when I was 19 years old. And it was age 19 that I decided I was done with porn. Done being a loser. Done being an addict. I was ready to turn my life around. But I had no idea how to do that.
+ | |||
+ | Skip ahead 3 years. I'm 22. I run my own online business. I am porn-free and weed-free, and I no longer use nicotine pouches. My confidence (and testosterone) is higher. My energy levels are through the roof. And it all started with quitting porn. Here's how you can quit porn FOREVER and take back your life:
+ | |||
+ | # Admit you have a problem
+ | ## I didn't want to do this because it meant I had another problem to solve. But once I did it allowed me to start looking for the solution. This was the first step to overcoming shame.
+ | # Give yourself a strong reason why
+ | ## It took me too long to pick a strong why. But I read enough stories of what a porn-free life looked like to know I wanted it. This is a strong why: "So I have more energy, confidence, and I am better prepared for a healthy relationship."
+ | # Figure out your triggers
+ | ## My triggers were late nights, social media, and chicks I used to sext. If I were serious about quitting, it meant I had to delete those things. So I did.
+ | ## Your triggers will be:
+ | ### Emotional | ||
+ | ### Visual | ||
+ | ### Habitual | ||
+ | ## Once you find them, cut them out.
+ | # Understand WHY you watch it
+ | ## I mentioned it earlier in this thread. I watched porn to escape the awful life I was living and the pain I was feeling. So I had to find new ways to face that pain. New ways to work through it. But you first must find your why.
+ | # Find your WHY for watching
+ | ## Get out a pen and paper. Dedicate time each day to this. And start writing what's going on in your life. What you're feeling, what you're thinking, and what sucks. Porn addiction comes from pain. Find the pain. Feel the pain. Then heal it.
+ | # Learn the truth about porn
+ | ## I didn't watch porn because I was horny (like I thought I did). I watched it because I was hurting. Because I wanted to run. The same is true for you. You choose porn because you are feeling tension and you want a RELEASE.
+ | # Give yourself healthy outlets
+ | ## One of the most life changing things I did was give myself new coping mechanisms. My favorite? Journaling. I had been journaling since I was 13 but this time I was intentional about it. Journal when you are stressed. It will help a ton.
+ | # Other outlets | ||
+ | ## Journaling | ||
+ | ## Lifting weights | ||
+ | ## Nature walks | ||
+ | ## Phone calls | ||
+ | ## Business building | ||
+ | ## Steak eating | ||
+ | ## Sun maxxing | ||
+ | ## Studying philosophy
+ | ## Reading your Bible | ||
+ | ## Prayer & meditation
+ | # (These will also change your life)
+ | # Tell someone | ||
+ | ## I had to tell someone.
+ | ## So I told my friends. I told my mentors.
+ | ## And it felt AMAZING.
+ | ## So I encourage you to tell someone about your struggle.
+ | ## Then make a commitment to change.
+ | ## (That someone can be me.)

16 ways that quitting porn will transform your life [1]
16 ways that quitting porn will transform your life// THREAD // Porn is a silent epidemic.
• 26% of men UNDER age 40 experience ED (this is not normal) • Less sexual and relationship satisfaction linked to porn in 80+ studies • Porn causes poorer mental, emotional, and cognitive outcomes according to 85+ studies
Let's dive in. Your dopamine reward center gets absolutely fried by porn.
You'll make it healthy again... skyrocketing your motivation, mental clarity, and focus, when you quit. Reduced arousal with real women becomes normal, and many men eventually experience ED (even in their 20's!) from using porn.
Problems with arousal are eventually reversed, giving you Herculean-strength erections, when you quit. Porn kills your confidence.
Quitting will amplify it massively. Low energy, lethargy, and apathy plague the lives of porn users.
You'll feel invigorated and have way more enthusiasm for life when you quit. Social anxiety is a big problem for porn addicts.
You'll be less "in your head" and more present when you quit. Women find men who use porn less attractive on a subconscious level.
You'll stand out from the crowd when you quit. Real women become less interesting to porn users because they’re always sexually satiated.
You'll find renewed passion for connecting with women once you quit. Normal women are less attractive to porn users because they can never compare to an unlimited stream of women who will perform every crazy fetish and act under the sun.
All women become more attractive when you quit. Perception of beauty is skewed by using porn, because you're always looking at the most beautiful women. This creates unrealistically high standards.
Again, all women become more attractive when you quit. Instant gratification is the bread-and-butter of a porn addict's life.
Delaying gratification to work on long-term, meaningful goals becomes a lot easier when you quit. Escapism becomes the norm for porn users.
Facing and overcoming problems and uncomfortable feelings becomes the norm when you quit. Women secretly hate that men watch porn, but sadly, it’s so common that most just feel they have to accept it.
Every woman you get close to will LOVE that you're different when you quit. Romantic relationships are strained by using porn because of many of the things mentioned above.
Your relationships will run much more smoothly when you quit. If you’re single, you’ll probably struggle to find and hold down a relationship while using porn.
Your odds of success with women skyrocket when you quit. If you’re dating or married, porn represents a grave threat to your relationship.
That threat will never come to fruition when you quit. Depression and hopelessness are very common for porn addicts.
They get much better because of the positive changes that occur in your life when you quit. Porn causes a lot of problems.
The good news is that they're all 100% reversible by obliterating it from your life.
With time, the addiction-related brain changes that have occurred will diminish until one day they’re gone. I've experienced every single negative effect in this thread.
I've also experienced every single positive transformation.
So have hope, because it'll get better when you do what you need to.
Kick porn out of your life for good. Liked the thread?
